Professor Sendil Ethiraj has been appointed as the inaugural Dawson Chair in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School. A position made possible by a generous £3 million gift from LBS alumnus John Dawson MiFPT 1995 and his wife, Sam Dawson.

A globally recognised scholar, Professor Ethiraj has transformed understanding of  innovation, competitive strategy and corporate strategy. His research on how organisations navigate complexity, particularly in multi-unit and diversified corporations, has shaped the field while his leadership roles, including Deputy Dean (Faculty), member of LBS’s Governing Body from 2022–25, Co-Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and Chair of LBS’s Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Advisory Board, reflect his enduring impact on both academia and the School.

“Professor Ethiraj stands out as a prominent scholar in the field of strategy and entrepreneurship, renowned for his research and thought leadership in these areas. We are deeply grateful to John and Sam Dawson for their extraordinary generosity and for supporting the future of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School,” said Dean Sergei Guriev.
