The alumna driving global change and the wider societal impact of her work

Showing appreciation for the opportunities you have been given.

Dr Meri Rosich JEMBA2003 is a globally recognised data and Al strategist with over two decades of experience leading data-driven transformations across 150 countries. In addition to a prestigious corporate career at multinationals like Amex, Bertelsmann, Samsung, Docomo, Visa and Standard Chartered, she has founded start-ups and served as a Board Director and Ambassador for many charitable organisations in her dedication to making a positive impact as a responsible corporate leader. She has been a member of LBS’s Alumni Council for three years.

Meri is a Spanish national and was working in New York when she received her offer from LBS. She was only able to attend because of a joint Fundación “la Caixa” and British Council Scholarship which funded the first year of her MBA.

For me, education was a dream that almost didn’t happen. In Europe, many perceive it as a given, but for more disadvantaged students (I was one) it isn’t that easy. LBS opened the door to a whole new world for me; a world I was only able to access as a result of my scholarship.

Since she left LBS – with a special graduation award for helping other students find suitable employment – she has used the opportunities afforded to her to make her mark in the world as a champion of responsible leadership.

Her latest book, ‘Update All: The Executive’s Guide to the upDATAble Framework in a Climate-Disrupted World,  is an accessible dive into what all of us can do to be more responsible, from governments creating sustainability policies to a young person trying to persuade their parents to cook with electricity rather than gas. Meri is adamant that we need to change the way we behave going forwards, so the book uses simple, accessible language in a five-step upDATAble framework to give people the tools to do just that. She hopes it shows that everyone has agency to make better choices, with even small steps making a tangible difference for our children and the planet they will inhabit.

Meri has continued in her support of LBS throughout the 20+ years since her JEMBA and is passionate about the LBS network. In fact, when she was offered a job at American Express even before graduating, it was the LBS alumni already working there that tipped her off about a sign-on bonus which allowed her to pay off her second-year student loan. Since then, she has used her role on the Alumni Council to elevate its focus on data and the digital aspects of the alumni community, pushing colleagues to do more and do it better. She has also been instrumental in encouraging the development of the MyLBS portal which facilitates even stronger connections between LBS graduates around the world.

She explains why supporting LBS is so important to her: “I came to higher education with very low expectations, so every opportunity I have been given since has been a bonus. I am fortunate to have had a successful corporate and academic career because of my experience at LBS, so the best thing I can do is give back, in whatever way I can. It’s not about tax deductions or having my name on a wall, it’s about making sure the world continues to be focused on research, science and the leadership decision-making that will benefit society the most.”
