Professor Elias Papaioannou appointed as Alexander Knaster Chair in Economics

Professor Elias Papaioannou has been appointed as the Alexander Knaster Chair in Economics, highlighting LBS's commitment to academic excellence.

Elias Papaioannou, Professor of Economics and Academic Director, Wheeler Institute for Business and Development at LBS, Fellow of the British Academy, has been appointed as the Alexander Knaster Chair in Economics, effective 1 August 2025. 

The Chair is made possible by a generous donation from Mr Alexander Knaster, LBS Executive Fellow in Strategy and Entrepreneurship. Mr Knaster is Chairman and CEO of investment management firm Pamplona Capital Management and the founder of The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research. His enduring support continues to shape the School’s academic strength. 

Emily Robin, Associate Dean, Advancement  said, “Endowed chairs are the cornerstone of academic excellence at LBS, empowering our School to attract and retain distinguished scholars, foster groundbreaking research, and inspire future generations of business leaders.
